Tai Chi Chuan Center of New York
MARTIAL ARTS MUSICAL CONCERT
New York, Oct. 17 -- What does classical tai chi look like? Master C.K. Chu will give a rare public demonstration on Saturday, November 11 at the Pace University Downtown Theater (details below). This unique performance headlines a benefit musical that will also showcase refined tai chi fighting applications and sword forms, along with musical interpretations of centuries-old tai chi texts from China. Advance ticket purchase (212-221-6110, center@chutaichi.com) is recommended, as this one-time-only event is expected to sell out.
Master C.K. Chu is the Hong Kong-born founder of the Tai Chi Chuan Center of New York. The Center, a Times Square institution known throughout the martial arts world, is now struggling to stay in the area due to the loss of a lease after 27 years. The Concert will help pay for renovations in a new space on 44th Street. Master Chu's students have won multiple full-contact martial arts tournaments, but the school is also an oasis of meditative calm in the heart of Times Square. Thanks to the Broadway location, regular students include many professional singers and dancers who will also take part in the Benefit Musical.
The performance will take place Saturday, November 11, at 7:30 PM, at Pace University Downtown Theater (East of City Hall; entrance on Spruce Street, between Park Row & Gold Street. Subway: N/R train to City Hall or 4/5/6 train to Brooklyn Bridge). Tickets are $35, $45 and $55.
